The Dolphins coveted Ryan Mallett, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald. "We were willing to take him, we just couldnt get our hands on him, a Dolphins source told Salguero."We tried, but we couldnt do it. Hes going to be a good quarterback."The Patriots took Mallett with the 74th overall pick. Miami had made a deal earlier in the round to get running back Daniel Thomas at No. 62. They gave up their 79th overall pick, a fifth and a seventh to get up there. (Thanks to my corporate stepbrother Gregg Rosenthal for unearthing.)
