Johnny Manziel?
"I'd go to New England in a heartbeat," Manziel said while snapping his fingers, in response to TMZ.com's questions about NFL Network analyst Nate Burleson's comments that suggested Johnny Football competing to be Tom Brady's backup wouldn't be so outlandish.
“Johnny can go there for a reason that not a lot of people realize,” Burleson said. “He’s not gonna beat out Tom Brady. We all know that." Burleson pointed out that a competition between ex-Cleveland Browns quarterbacks Brian Hoyer - Brady's current backup - and Manziel for the Pats' No. 2 job would be a good opportunity for Manziel, who's been out of football the past two years because of substance abuse and emotional problems. Manziel recently said he's been battling bipolar disorder.
Said Burleson: "...So that second-string competition will be as high as ever, and it also would be like a memory [back to Cleveland] for both of them and the best man will prevail."
Manziel has agreed to play in a spring developmental football league that begins in April and has said playing in Canada could be an option. The Patriots did give Tim Tebow a look in training camp a few years back. Could they give Manziel a shot?
