The other usual suspects haven’t topped the NFL’s statistical ranks through six weeks, so online gambling site Bovada.lv is assuming Tom Brady will win the MVP.
Despite Brady having only played in two games due to a four-game suspension and surprise performances from Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan and Cowboys rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott, Bovada currently lists Brady as the odds-on-favorite to win the award.
Such a prediction carries more projection than it usually would, as Brady’s six touchdowns and 782 passing yards sit well behind Ryan’s 15 touchdowns and league-leading 2,075 passing yards. Though Ryan’s totals are obviously far better, Brady has thrown for more yards per game (an average of 391 to Ryan’s 356) and more touchdowns per game (three to Ryan’s 2.5).
If Brady were to be the league MVP this season, it would mark his third such distinction, as he also won it in 2007 and 2010.
Here are the players that currently top Bovada’s odds:
Tom Brady: +250
Matt Ryan: +750
Russell Wilson: +800
Ezekiel Elliott: +800
Aaron Rodgers: +1200
Sam Bradford: +1600
David Johnson: +1600
Dak Prescott: +1600
Julio Jones, Von Miller, Derek Carr: +2500
