The Red Sox have signed a man named Ross, but it isn't the one Red Sox fans have been expecting.

According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Red Sox have signed veteran catcher David Ross to a two year, 6.2 million deal.

Ross has spent the last four seasons in Atlanta where he hit .269 with 24 home runs and 94 RBI.  Last season he threw out 44 percent of basestealers.
Ross played the last five weeks of the 2008 season with the Red Sox, getting into eight games.

According to Rosenthal, the 35-year-old backstop will be "more than a backup, but not a starter" in his new role with the Red Sox.
