AUBURN HILLS, Mich.Paul Pierce left Sunday's loss at Detroit in the fourth quarter with a right ankle injury and did not return.

However, Pierce said afterwards the injury wasn't serious.

"It's a little sore," said Pierce, who had just 13 points on 5-for-13 shooting. "I turned it on one of the last plays of the game. But I think it'll be all right, a couple days rest."

The Celtics do not return to the floor until Wednesday when they face the San Antonio Spurs who are once again among the top teams in the NBA.

Boston coach Doc Rivers said the C's will take Monday off and do very little on Tuesday with the goal being to give his players a better chance to recover from what has been a difficult stretch of games.

Sunday's loss was Boston's fourth game in five days, and seventh in 10.

It is the only time the C's will endure such a physically difficult schedule this season.

With so many games so closely packed together, it is a challenge for all both physically and mentally.

For some Celtics, the physical aspect was tougher to contend with then the mental part.

"The physical is more (of a challenge)," Pierce said. "Mentally, guys want to do the right thing, want to challenge themselves. I just think physically, sometimes it's tough on some of the guys with the travel and back-to-back nights. Like I said, (Sunday's loss is) the type of game you just throw away and move on, get ready for these two big games (San Antonio and Oklahoma City) at home."
