When tragedy struck the Kansas City Chiefs this morning with the murdersuicide of Jovan Belcher, former members of the Patriots organization were affected.

As details emerged about the situation at the Kansas City Chiefs practice facility, it became known that Belcher was speaking to coach Romeo Crennel and general manager Scott Pioli before taking his own life.

Crennel is a former defensive coordinator for the Patriots, while Pioli is the former Patriots general manager.

"And there were Pioli and Crennel and another coach or employee was standing outside and appeared to be talking to him. It appeared they were talking to the suspect," Darin Snapp, a police spokesman, describes the scene at the facility. "The suspect began to walk in the opposite direction of the coaches and the officers and that's when they heard the gunshot. It appears he took his own life."

"They said the player was actually thanking them for everything they'd done for him," continued Snapp. "They were just talking to him and he was thanking them and everything. That's when he walked away and shot himself."

According to Snapp, the coaches never felt in danger.
