Report: Gary Clark works out for C's ahead of training camp

The Boston Celtics aren't done exploring roster changes, it appears.

The Celtics recently hosted veteran forward Gary Clark for a workout, Forbes' Chris Grenham reported Wednesday. Sportando's Emiliano Carchia was the first to report about Clark's workout for Boston.

Per Grenham, Clark and the Celtics have yet to reach an agreement ahead of training camp, which begins next Tuesday. But the C's at least have interest in the 26-year-old wing, who's entering his fourth NBA season after going undrafted in 2018.

Forsberg: Who should round out the starting five for Celtics?

Clark has bounced between four NBA teams in that span, beginning his career with the Houston Rockets before stints with the Orlando Magic, Denver Nuggets and Philadelphia 76ers. Clark spent most of the 2020-21 season in Orlando, where he averaged 3.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 0.9 assists in 32 games.

Clark most recently was on a two-way contract with the Sixers and has spent time in the G League, so he would be more of an end-of-the-bench depth add if he lands in Boston. The Celtics could use additional depth at the wing and stretch four positions, though.

The C's added wing Josh Richardson and power forward Jauncho Hernangomez this offseason to complement Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Aaron Nesmith, Romeo Langford and Grant Williams, but everyone in that group is unproven in Boston aside from Tatum and Brown.

The Celtics begin training camp on Sept. 28 with their first preseason game set for Oct. 4.
