LeBron James could miss season opener vs. Celtics

We might need to adjust our expectations for the Celtics’ season-opener.

After this summer’s trade of Kyrie Irving to the C’s, it stood to reason that LeBron James might go off in the first game of the season against Boston next Tuesday. Now comes news that he might not play at all.

James played in his first game of the preseason Tuesday, testing out a sprained left ankle. Though he scored 17 points, he experienced soreness in the ankle, which was originally injured on Sept. 27.

Cleveland coach Tyronn Lue told reporters Wednesday that the Cavaliers are “not sure” if they should be concerned regarding his status for next Tuesday, but that James was “pretty sore” Wednesday.

"He was experiencing soreness so he won't practice [Thursday], he won't play on Friday, either," Lue said. "So, um, (LeBron is) pretty mad, pretty pissed off. But I mean, it is what it is."
