Jaylen Brown officially is no longer without an agent.
The Celtics forward confirmed to The Boston Globe on Thursday he has hired Jason Glushon as his agent, as was reported Wednesday.
“It’s just what’s best for me,” Brown told The Boston Globe's Adam Himmelsbach. “I don’t really want to talk about it. I think [talking] is a distraction. But I made my decision and I move on.”
Brown is eligible to sign a contract extension entering the fourth year of his deal, but the 22-year-old says he's not focused on that right now.
“I think just coming out and playing basketball is all I’m concerned with,” Brown said. “The media, the headlines, the articles that are being written about it, I think that’s more of a distraction more than anything. I’m just focused on basketball.”
That said, Brown likely has taken note of the large deals Glushon has been able to negotiate for players around the NBA. Former Celtics teammate Al Horford signed a four-year, $109 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers this summer thanks to Glushon.
If Brown wants to ink a major deal, he'll have to improve upon his statline from last season -- 13 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.4 asissts per game. It seems likely Brown will improve heading into his fourth season with Boston after averaging 7.9 points, 11 assists, and five steals per game off the bench for USA Basketball at the FIBA World Cup this summer.
