Are Tatum and Brown untouchable in trades? Grousbeck explains

The Boston Celtics have plenty of work to do this offseason, but they at least have two pillars to build around in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

The question is, with Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck acknowledging more roster changes to come this summer, is it possible either of those All-Stars will be moved?

Forsberg: Should the Celtics extend Marcus Smart this summer?

Grousbeck was asked about Tatum and Brown's futures with the team Tuesday on 98.5 The Sports Hub's "Felger & Mazz."

"The important thing for keeping people around and for getting where we want to go is to take a long-term view," he answered. "The idea is we have two young All-Stars and [new Celtics head coach Ime Udoka] highlighted them in his press conference. ... He wants to be here in large part because of our roster, not to mention the fans and everything else it is about Boston.

"It's because of who's on the team right now and probably led by those two, Jayson and Jaylen. We'll see how this goes, but we're building for the future. We could have a good long run of being a good team with these young guys and now this new coach, so I'm really hopeful."

While he wouldn't go as far as to call Tatum and Brown "untouchable" in trade talks, Grousbeck made it clear he hopes both players end their careers in Boston.

"It's not for me to say, and I don't comment on that stuff. I love them. We want them to retire as Celtics," Grousbeck said.

The Celtics have already made one blockbuster trade since former head coach Brad Stevens replaced Danny Ainge as president of basketball operations. All-Star point guard Kemba Walker was sent to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a deal that brought Al Horford and Moses Brown to Boston.

It's hard to imagine the team parting ways with Tatum. Brown, however, has been brought up in recent trade rumors. With Damian Lillard reportedly pondering a trade request, there's speculation about whether the C's would consider including Brown in a trade for the Portland Trail Blazers star.

For now though, it appears the plan still is to build around the Jays. An eventful Celtics offseason awaits nonetheless.
