The flu bug running through the Red Sox claimed another victim in Hanley Ramirez and has resulted in a makeshift lineup for Game 3 of the season, the opener of a four-game series in Detroit this afternoon (1:10).
Ramirez and Mookie Betts did not travel with the team and the Sox placed lefty reliever Robbie Ross Jr. on the 10-day DL with the flu on Thursday.
Brock Holt steps in as DH and leadoff hitter Friday, Chris Young starts in right and, with Xander Bogaerts on a three-day bereavement leave, Marco Hernandez starts at shortstop after being called up from Triple-A Pawtucket.
On the mound, knuckleballer Steven Wright opposes Tigers right-hander Michael Fulmer, the 2016 A.L. rookie of the year.
