Manny Ramirez is once again on the market.
Ramirez asked the Athletics for - and was granted - his release. He signed a minor league deal in February and played well at Triple-A Sacramento, posting a .302 average with 14 RBI.
The mercurial outfielder returned to baseball this season after taking a year off from the game. He served a 50-game suspension for violating Major League Baseball's drug policy last year.
Ramirez's agents released a statement that indicated the outfielder asked for his release when it became clear the Athletics would not be able to guarantee him a spot on the major league roster.
It appears Ramirez is still interested in playing and will look for another opportunity.
