It's time to mark down your calendars as the NHL has announced its target date for the start of the 2020-21 season.

The NHL and NHLPA released a joint statement Tuesday evening in which they announced their plan for a Jan. 1 Opening Night. Commissioner Gary Bettman made the announcement shortly afterward during the NHL Entry Draft.

That's only three short months until hockey is back in our lives. Until then, hockey fans have plenty to look forward to with the draft as well as free agency, which is set to begin Friday at 12 p.m. ET.
