Matt Cassel breaks down what happened on the play that led to Stephon Gilmore interception of Mac Jones during the first half.

Stephon Gilmore said this week he had "a lot of extra" motivation facing the New England Patriots this week. He wasn't lying.

In his first home game with the Carolina Panthers and first game against his former team since New England traded him last month, the veteran cornerback intercepted Patriots quarterback Mac Jones midway through the second quarter.

Gilmore undercut Jakobi Meyers' slant route to record the pick, his second in two games with Carolina after intercepting Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan in very similar fashion last Sunday.

The 31-year-old still isn't 100 percent as he works his way back from a quad injury and was only playing on third downs Sunday, but he reminded the Patriots what they're missing with his ball-hawking skills.

Gilmore ran his interception back to New England's 34-yard line, setting up a Carolina field goal that cut the Patriots' lead to 7-6.
