The sequel to the immensely popular 1996 movie "Space Jam" starring Michael Jordan has a release date. It was announced Thursday that "Space Jam 2" will feature Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James in the leading role and release July 16, 2021.

The original "Space Jam" film featured many cameos from the NBA's best players past and present, in addition to Jordan. But what if there was an NFL version of the movie -- which quarterback would be best suited for the lead role?

The most obvious answer is New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who just won a record sixth Super Bowl championship at age 41.

Bleacher Report recently asked current and retired NFL stars which quarterback they'd like to see in a football version of "Space Jam", and some of them picked the Patriots star. Check out their picks in the video below:

Arizona Cardinals guard Justin Pugh said it best: "I mean, Tom Brady doesn't lose to mortals, he's not going to lose to the aliens. He doesn't age. He's not going to lose."

The best choice among up-and-coming quarterbacks is Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes. The 23-year-old just won the NFL MVP award, and he's able to pull off some superhuman-like throws that would fit well in the "Space Jam" universe.

Still, we have to go with Brady as the best candidate for lead actor in an NFL version of "Space Jam."
