According to ESPN’s Field Yates and Mike Reiss, the Patriots and offensive tackle Marcus Cannon have agreed to a five-year contract extension.
Cannon is in his sixth season in New England. He was set to become a free agent at season’s end, with his improved play at right tackle for the Pats this season likely boosting his stock as a potentially coveted commodity for teams on the open market.
A fifth-round pick of the Patriots in 2011, the now 28-year-old Cannon’s success this season may be a product of his improved conditioning and the return of offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia.
