The New England Patriots don't have much room under the NFL's salary cap, but they found a way to create some space to acquire wide receiver DeVante Parker in a trade with the Miami Dolphins.

ESPN's Field Yates reported Wednesday that the Patriots converted nearly $3 million of defensive end Deatrich Wise's base salary into a signing bonus -- a move that opened up almost $2 million in salary cap room.

This conversion helped the Patriots fit in Parker's $6 million cap hit. The trade with the Dolphins became official Tuesday.

Parker is actually on a pretty team-friendly contract. He's set to earn around $5.6 million in salary each of the next two years, along with a cap hit of around $6 million over the same span. That's a low cost for a player of his caliber.

The only real concern with Parker is his durability. He's only played one full season since being drafted in 2015. When healthy, Parker is a solid deep threat who leads the league in contested catches since 2019.

The Patriots currently have the second-lowest amount of salary cap space in the league, per OverTheCap.
