Jae Crowder's mother died the night of his trade from Celtics to Cavs

A trade from the Boston Celtics to the Cleveland Cavaliers was not the most devastating news that Jae Crowder received on Tuesday.

Not even close.

Crowder's mother, Helen Thompson, 51, died of cancer on Tuesday night.

A source close to Crowder confirmed his mother's death to cleveland.com.

Thompson, 51, lived outside of Atlanta. Earlier this month on Twiter, Crowder asked for prayers for his family:

Crowder, Isaiah Thomas, Ante Zizic were traded to the Cavs for Kyrie Irving. Word of the trade came down at about 6:30 p.m. and the Celtics and Cavs made it official shortly after 8 p.m.
