Isaiah Thomas' season is over with a hip injury, but Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge was quick to recognize it as "legendary" on Twitter.
Ainge tweeted Saturday shortly after the team announced that Thomas would miss the remainder of the playoffs.
Thomas began the postseason playing less than 24 hours after the tragic news that his 22-year-old sister Chynna had been killed in a car accident near their hometown of Tacoma, Wash.

He went on to lead the Celtics past the Chicago Bulls in the first round, overcoming a 0-2 series deficit. He scored 53 points in a Game 2 overtime victory over the Wizards in the second round and helped lead Boston past Washington in seven games to reach the Eastern Conference finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

His hip injury was so severe that there was some uncertainty as to whether he would be able to play in Game 7 against the Wizards.
That followed a second consecutive All-Star season that included a 52-point performance against the Miami Heat on Dec. 30, a 28.9 per game scoring average that was second in Celtics' history to Larry Bird's 29.9 in 1987-88 and a C's record 41 consecutive regular-season games with 20 or more points.
