Marc Bertrand joins BST to discuss the failings of Red Sox ownership this season and how they’ve led to the team’s recent slump.

Marcelo Mayer can check another major milestone off the list.

The Boston Red Sox' No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft collected the first home run of his professional baseball career on Saturday. Mayer's homer was a three-run blast to right field for the Florida Complex League Red Sox against the FCL Twins.

Mayer also notched an RBI single on the day to finish 2-for-4. The 18-year-old shortstop is hitting .231 with a .718 OPS, five RBI and five runs scored through the first seven games of his pro career.

MLB Pipeline ranks Mayer as the No. 9 prospect in baseball. He is the No. 2 ranked prospect in the Red Sox organization, according to SoxProspects.com.
