Felger and Jim Murray react to breaking news that the Red Sox have signed Rafael Devers to a major contract extension.

Red Sox Nation finally was given something to cheer about as Boston locked up Rafael Devers to a long-term contract extension.

Devers, originally scheduled to hit free agency after the 2023 season, reportedly signed an 11-year, $331 million deal with the Red Sox on Wednesday. That means the star third baseman will remain in Boston through his age-37 season.

Tomase: Red Sox' projected 2023 lineup leaves much to be desired

A few of Devers' current and former Red Sox teammates were elated to hear the news of his payday and took to Twitter to share their reactions.

Assuming the deal goes through, it will become the sixth-largest contract in MLB history and the largest ever handed out by the Red Sox.

Devers already has two All-Star selections and a World Series title under his belt as he enters his age-26 season. Last year, he slashed .295/.358/.521 with 27 homers and 88 RBI in 141 games. He will take over as the face of the franchise following the departure of fellow homegrown star Xander Bogaerts.
