Red Sox place Santana, Pivetta on COVID IL

Alex Cora talked about his appreciation for Chris Sale’s leadership in the clubhouse. He also mentioned the team is battling through their Covid issue and says there was a good vibe in the locker room.

The Red Sox announced Sunday that outfielder Danny Santana and pitcher Nick Pivetta have been placed on the COVID-19 related injury list, bringing the total number of Boston players currently on this list to 11.

As a result, the team also announced it has recalled outfielder Franchy Cordero and right-handed pitcher Kutter Crawford from Triple-A Worcester. 

Crawford will start Sunday afternoon's series finale versus the Cleveland Indians at Fenway Park.

Boston entered Sunday with a four-game win streak and a four-game lead over the Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners for the second wild card playoff spot in the American League.
