BOSTON -- Andrew Bailey, who has been on the DL all season after surgery on his right thumb, threw a bullpen session Sunday morning. His next session to throw is scheduled for batting practice Wednesday in Texas. He could begin a rehab assignment in about a week, Valentine said.

Scott Atchison, who has been on the DL since July 14 with right forearm tightness, is progressing and could begin a rehab assigntment soon.

"Theres no pain. Hes throwing really well," Valentine said.

Valentine said he is not concerned about the teams recent string of errors.

I think weve played defense though so extremely well that youll make some errors just because its impossible to keep them off of the scoreboard, Valentine said.

The Sox have made 11 errors in their last 12 games leading to seven unearned runs.

Sox third baseman have made more errors combined (16) than the rest of the infield (first basemen, second basemen, shortstops) combined (15).

In the clubhouse Sunday morning, clubhouse manager Tom McLaughlin was having teammates sign the uniform jersey Ross wore when he hit the game-winning home run. The jersey, which was shredded in the game-winning celebration by teammate Nick Punto had been repaired. But, the blue stains from the Gatorade shower provided by Alfredo Aceves were still visible.

The Cape Cod League is holding a home run derby Sunday morning at Fenway before the start of the Red Sox game against the Blue Jays.
