An ex-Red Sox reliever has finally found work.
Robbie Ross Jr., who opted for free agency after a 2017 season cut short by a series of injuries, has agreed to a minor-league contract with the White Sox. He'll join the team in spring training as a non-roster invitee.
Ross, now 28, pitched well for the Red Sox in 2015 and '16, and was regarded as their top left-handed reliever entering last season. But he got off to a slow start and was optioned to Pawtucket -- much to his surprise and chagrin -- in late April. By the end of May, he was placed on the disabled list because of inflammation in his throwing elbow, then underwent back surgery in late August.
