The New England Revolution will have pretty good defense corps to begin the 2020 season.
New England re-signed defender Michael Mancienne to a new deal Monday afternoon.
This will be Mancienne's third season with the Revolution after joining the team in 2018. The 31-year-old has appeared in 26 games with 23 starts and has registered one goal. During the 2019 season Mancienne injured his foot and missed time, but still managed to appear in 16 games.
Mancienne is a native of England and has professional experience in the English Premier League and German Bundesliga. He's spent time with Chelsea, Wolverhampton, Queens Park Rangers, Hamburger SV and Nottingham Forest.
The signing comes after the Revs re-signed defenders DeJuan Jones, Brandon Bye and added Alexander Buttner. They also signed 16-year-old midfielder Damian Rivera to a homegrown player contract.
While they continue bolstering their defense, New England also saw defender Jalil Anibaba depart the organization following his selection by Nashville SC in the MLS Expansion draft.
Despite Anibaba's departure, the Revolution's defense is looking solid ahead of the 2020 season.
