New England Revolution to face Atlanta United in first round of MLS playoffs

The New England Revolution were unable to defeat Atlanta United in their regular-season finale on Sunday. Falling by a final score of 3-1, the Revs now know who they'll be facing in the first round of the MLS playoffs.

And it's going to be a rematch of their MLS regular-season finale.

By virtue of their loss, the Revs will be the seventh seed in the MLS' Eastern Conference. As a result, they'll face off against the second-seeded Atlanta United. Atlanta finished the season as the MLS' No. 2 team in the Eastern Conference with 58 total points. NYC FC was the only team ahead of them with 64 points.

The Revs have faced Atlanta United twice this year and they lost on both occasions by a combined score of 5-1. They'll need to play better defense against Atlanta's strong offense if they want to advance in the playoffs.

Perhaps it's doable under Bruce Arena who did miraculous work to get the team to the playoffs after taking over for the team midway through the season.

The Revolution last made the playoffs in 2015. They lost to D.C. United in the first round after finishing as the East's fifth seed.
