MLS is Back Tournament: Revs slotted in Group C with Eastern Conference rivals

We still don't know when the Revs will play their first games in the MLS is Back Tournament, but now we know who their first three opponents will be in the group stage.

New England was drawn into Group C for the 26-team tournament alongside Eastern Conference rivals Toronto FC, D.C. United and the Montreal Impact. That's a relatively friendly draw, compared to a group like Group F, which is loaded with LAFC, L.A. Galaxy, the Houston Dynamo and the Portland Timbers.

For the Revs, their game against the Impact will be a rematch, as the New England opened the season in Montreal with a 2-1 loss on February 29. And New England will be looking for revenge against all three clubs, as the Revs haven't beaten any of its group-stage opponents since 2018.

The Eastern Conference has three groups — Groups C and E have four teams each while Group A consists of six teams — while the Western Conference was drawn into Groups B, D, and F, each of which have four teams.

Here's how the MLS is Back Tournament works: each team will play three group-stage matches which will count toward the regular-season standings. After 16 days of competition, the top two teams from each group plus the four best third-place finishers will advance to the knockout stage, which begins on July 25. The final will be held on August 11, with all games at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex outside of Orlando.
