Kessler named to U.S. Under-23 Men's National Team roster

Henry Kessler is set to represent the New England Revolution on the United States' Under-23 Men's National Team.

The 22-year-old Revs defender will join the U-23 team for training camp in Guadalajara, Mexico ahead of the Concacaf Men's Olympic Qualifying Championship. There are 28 total players heading to camp and the final 20-player roster for the tournament, which begins March 18, will be selected by head coach Jason Kreis.

This is Kessler's second training camp with the U.S. Under-23 Team this year. He earned his first national team call-up for the January Camp in Florida.

Revolution head coach Bruce Arena has high hopes for the sixth-overall pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft.

"Our expectation is that he gets better as a player, he grows, and takes advantage of the experience he got in year one," Arena said. "I thought he did an outstanding job for us last year and hopefully, he can build on that in 2021.”

Kessler appeared in 22 games in his debut season, leading New England in interceptions (34), tackles won (21), and possessions won (123). He also ranked second among all rookies in MLS starts, appearances, and minutes played. Kessler's efforts led to him becoming the first rookie to win the club's Defender of the Year award since 2011.

The United States will compete in Group A, opening play against Costa Rica on March 18 at 5 p.m. ET.
