Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara rarely drops the gloves, and the reasoning goes both ways. For opponents, it's never smart to get into a close-quartered scuffle with a guy who's 7 feet tall on skates. For the Bruins, it's far from ideal to have your best defenseman off the ice for five minutes.
But when the captain is challenged, it's appointment viewing. The last time Patrick Maroon squared up with Chara, back in 2017 when the former was with Edmonton, it wasn't pretty for Maroon.
Thursday night at TD Garden, it was even worse for the St. Louis Blues winger:

According to HockeyFights.com, it's the first time Chara has fought since March 1 of last year against Pittsburgh's Jamie Oleksiak, another opponent who struggled to counter Chara's limitless reach.
