The Boston Bruins' selection of John Beecher with the No. 30 pick in the first round of the 2019 NHL Draft was not met with a ton of applause.
The 18-year-old forward was ranked lower than 30 on several draft boards. Many experts gave the Bruins a "C" grade or worse for their 2019 draft, or labeled the Original Six club as "losers" when separating the draft into winners and losers.
Beecher, however, is starting to change some opinions with a strong showing at the 2019 World Junior Showcase over the last week. He put on a show during the weekend, scoring multiple goals and displaying an offensive skill set B's fans certainly will enjoy.
Here's a look at some of his most impressive plays from Sunday's game against Finland, which the Americans won 7-1.
Beecher also scored a nice breakaway goal versus Sweden on Saturday:
Here are some other observations of Beecher from the event:
It's important not to get overly excited about Beecher's play at the showcase, but it's definitely encouraging to see him play so well against other talented players in his age group.
Beecher will not start the 2019-20 season on the Bruins' roster because he'll be at the University of Michigan as a freshman, but he should have a bright future in the NHL with his impressive size, skating ability and improving offensive talents.
