Report: Bruins sign Dan Renouf to two-way contract

The Boston Bruins have been relatively active to begin free agency, considering the lack of cap space they have to work with.Β 

The Bruins have reportedly signed Dan Renouf to a two-year, two-way contract. The rumored signing ofΒ the 6-foot-2, 205-pound defenseman marks the third new player that the Bruins have acquired since the start of free agency on Wednesday.

Renouf has played a total of 23 games in the NHL and has made three assists. He played 63 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins, the Detroit Red Wings AHL team, during the 2021-22 season. Renouf scored three goals and earned 11 assists in those 63 games.

During the 2020-21 season, Renouf played 18 games with the Colorado Avalanche. He tallied three assists for the Avs.

The 28-year-old defenseman played three seasons with the University of Maine before signing with Detroit in 2016 as an undrafted player. At UMaine, Renouf earned a total of 38 points in 111 games with ten goals and 28 assists. He led the UMaine team in scoring by a defenseman during the 2015-16 season.

The new Bruins head coach, Jim Montgomery, also went to UMaine. Hopefully, Montgomery will be able to connect with the fellow Black Bear and help develop him as a player, even if he remains in the AHL.

Renouf will most likely play with the Providence Bruins, adding to the organization's defensive depth at left D.
