Morning Skate: Fitzgerald explains new job with Devils

Here’s a look at the links from all around the hockey world, what I’m reading on this Wednesday before dropping into the three ring circus at Gillette Stadium later today. Two words: Free Brady.

-- Tom Fitzgerald explains his new role as assistant GM with the New Jersey Devils after leaving a job with the same title in the Pittsburgh Penguins organization. A lot of changes happening in Pittsburgh that make you wonder what direction that hockey club is going in these days.

-- PHT writer and FOH (Friend of Haggs) Jason Brough has Vancouver Canucks GM Jim Benning calling Brandon Sutter a “foundation piece” for the Canucks.

-- Conversely, Rob Rossi says that the Penguins will miss an excellent hockey guy in Sutter.

-- Mike Heika held a Q & A chat with readers, and indicated that Lindy Ruff will be on the hot seat with the Stars if the team doesn’t get off to a good start.

-- Kirk Luedeke wraps up his random thoughts on the 2016 NHL Draft weekend with an entry on his brand, spanking new hockey blog.

-- Chicago, Buffalo and Tampa Bay are among the five finalists to host the 2018 World Junior Hockey Championships.

-- Former BU forward Colin Wilson agrees to a four-year contract with the Nashville Predators that will carry some level of elevated expectations for the young winger moving forward.

-- For something completely different: This rip job takes Jon Stewart to task for “secret meetings” with President Barack Obama among other things. Interesting that these smear pieces on Stewart are starting to come out in his last few days on the job with the Daily Show.
