Monday, Oct. 3: Jersey confusion for Panthers and Stars

Here are all the links from around the hockey world, and what I’m reading after my 3-year-old made certain our front porch was already fully decorated for Halloween this past weekend.

*Two NHL teams donned their white jerseys for a preseason game with a giant miscommunication along the way.

*Former UMass Lowell goaltender Carter Hutton looks like a solid addition for the St. Louis Blues as a backup netminder.

*Barry Trotz and goaltender Philippe Grubauer talk about their World Cup of Hockey experience, and give a glowing review of Team Europe’s performance.

*Johnny Gaudreau isn’t signed with the Flames and it doesn’t look like a change is imminent there, but his agent says the left wing has zero desire to leave Calgary, and won’t be pulling a Jacob Trouba.

*The Philadelphia Flyers veterans aren’t feeling threatened by rookie Travis Konecny, who is pushing for a job in training camp.

*The CBC season preview series includes the best- and worse-case scenarios for the Montreal Canadiens this season.

*The youthful talent for the Toronto Maple Leafs offers a glimpse at the possibilities for this season and beyond. In other words: the Auston Matthews era has begun.

*For something completely different: the legacy of Big Papi goes far beyond baseball and gains him entrance to the Mount Rushmore of Boston sports icons right along with his three World Series titles…I’d put Bobby Orr, Tom Brady, Bill Russell and David Ortiz on my Mt. Rushmore because you have to have won to get past the velvet rope at the front of the club. All apologies to Ted Williams on that count, but he never got to the mountaintop despite his gaudy stats.
