It’s easy to say that Mike Modano can be proud of the career he had. On Nov. 17, he will officially be inducted into the Hall of Fame alongside a trio of other greats from his era in Peter Forsberg, Dominik Hasek, and Rob Blake. But when Modano looks at Tyler Seguin, he sees a player that is capable of enjoying a better season offensively than he ever had.
Modano’s career-high was 93 points, which he established in 1992-93 and then matched the following campaign. Seguin had 84 points last season and is looking to do better in his second campaign with Dallas.
“He has the tools to do it,” Modano said, per the Dallas Morning News. “Having (Jason) Spezza will certainly help, but just having Jamie (Benn) means that both should be in that discussion. They both have that ability, and they push each other pretty hard. You get a good power play, and who knows what can happen. There will be a time when he’s pushing 100, and that could be this season.”
Modano led the Stars to their only Stanley Cup championship in 1999. Benn, Seguin, and Spezza will provide them with a strong core of forwards in their quest to reclaim the Cup, but they have an uphill battle ahead of them.
