BOSTON -- Steve Kampfer was the only significant injury to the Bruins during the preseason, and even that wasnt all that serious as it turns out.

Kampfer has been doing well rehabbing the MCL sprain in his left knee suffered in the preseason finale against the Ottawa Senators, and Claude Julien said the puck-moving defenseman may be ready to skate some time this week. Thats excellent news for the young blueliner after fearing the worst when he thought he heard a popping noise in the left knee after making contact with Sens skater Jared Cowen.

Hes getting pretty close. Theres a possibility if everything continues to go well that he might start skating this week, said Julien. It will all depend on our medical staff as to whether its to his advantage to skate with us or skate by himself while continuing to get treatment.

Bruins rookie defenseman Matt Bartkowski made the Bs roster out of training camp after Kampfer went down and played in the season opener when Adam McQuaid fell ill, but the expectation is that Kampfer will take over as the spare defenseman for Boston as soon as hes healthy.

The Bruins havent made a determination yet whether Kampfer will accompany them on their road trip through Carolina and Chicago this week to face the Hurricanes and Blackhawks.
