Jake DeBrusk looking to ride ‘T&R Bump' into Stanley Cup Playoffs

BRIGHTON, Mass. – It shouldn’t be surprising that Bruins left winger Jake DeBrusk requested to be a phone-in guest to the "Toucher and Rich Show" on Thursday morning, as he’s done throughout most of the year.

The two morning radio show hosts have begun calling it the “T&R Bump” with the Bruins left winger, who said that he’s 11-for-11 scoring goals when he is the Bruins guest on the 98.5 the Sports Hub morning show. So it’s pretty clear DeBrusk wants to see if that good fortune will continue right on into the postseason for a Bruins team looking to get every edge it can against the Maple Leafs in the first round.

“It was good this year. I think it was 11-for-11 or something like that. It was pretty crazy to be honest,” said DeBrusk, who admitted that he requested to talk to the show on the morning of Game 1. “I think I’m going on to the show on Thursday. I don’t want to jinx anything or say anything, but it will be nice to talk to those guys for sure.

“Hopefully it keeps the good mojo going. We seem to win a lot of those games as well, so you don’t want to second guess anything.”

"Toucher and Rich" co-host Rich Shertenlieb agreed with DeBrusk about the strange coincidence of the interview effect: "It's pretty damn crazy."

Certainly the radio phone appearances have played into the career-high 27 goals that DeBrusk scored in his second NHL season, and they may play a good luck charm for a player who’s going to be a key headed into this first-round playoff series against the Maple Leafs. DeBrusk scored five goals and totaled seven points in last spring’s seven-game first-round series against Toronto, and was one of the players who really stepped up to make certain Boston advanced.

So there may be even more radio appearances coming for DeBrusk and "Toucher and Rich" in the near future, particularly if he once again scores in the kickoff game of their playoff series on Thursday night.
