Here are all the results from times the Bruins have trailed 3-2 in a playoff series

The Boston Bruins need to win two games consecutively to take home the 2019 Stanley Cup. On paper, that may not sound too hard. After all, this is the same team that had a 19-game point streak during the regular season. So, why can't they win two in a row?

While it is possible for the Bruins to achieve this, they are facing an uphill battle. Teams that win Game 5 in a best-of-seven series have gone on to win the Stanley Cup in 18 of the last 25 instances. And when a best-of-seven playoff series is tied 2-2, the Game 5 winner has an all-time series record of 210-58.

That said, the Bruins' own history being down 3-2 is decent. Since 1940, the Bruins have trailed 3-2 in 24 different playoff series. Here's a list of all the results from each series.

1940 Cup Semifinals vs. Rangers (Lost in 6)
1941 Cup Semifinals vs. Maple Leafs (Won in 7)
1945 Cup Semifinals vs. Red Wings (Lost in 7)
1958 Cup Final vs. Canadiens (Lost in 6)
1959 Cup Semifinals vs. Maple Leafs (Lost in 7)
1969 Cup Semifinals vs. Canadiens (Lost in 6)
1974 Cup Final vs. Flyers (Lost in 6)
1978 Cup Final vs. Canadians (Lost in 6)
1979 Cup Semifinals vs. Canadiens (Lost in 7)
1982 Adams Division Finals vs. Nordiques (Lost in 7)
1983 Prince of Wales Conference Final vs. Islanders (Lost in 6)
1991 Prince of Wales Conference Final vs. Penguins (Lost in 6)

1994 Round 1 vs. Canadiens (Won in 7)
1994 Round 2 vs. Devils (Lost in 6)
1998 Round 1 vs. Capitals (Lost in 6)
1999 Round 2 vs. Sabres (Lost in 6)
2002 Round 1 vs. Canadiens (Lost in 6)
2008 Round 1 vs. Canadiens (Lost in 7)
2009 Round 2 vs. Hurricanes (Lost in 7)
2011 Cup Final vs. Canucks (Won in 7)
2012 Round 1 vs. Capitals (Lost in 7)
2013 Cup Final vs. Blackhawks (Lost in 6)
2017 Round 1 vs. Senators (Lost in 6)
2019 Round 1 vs. Maple Leafs (Won in 7)

While the Bruins have only managed to win 4-of-24 series, they have forced a Game 7 in 11-of-24 circumstances. So, that near-50-percent mark is a positive for them.

And since 2008, the Bruins have at least forced a Game 7 in 5-of-7 seven chances (71.4 percent success rate) and have won a series outright twice (28.6 percent success rate), including the 2011 Stanley Cup against the Canucks. So, recent history suggests that they could have a chance to win and they have an even better chance to send this series to a Game 7.

Make no mistake. The Bruins are still fighting an uphill battle. But they at least have a chance to come from behind to take the series.
