Haggerty's Morning Skate: McQuaid stars in 2016-17 hockey fights highlight reel

Here are all the links from around the hockey world and what I’m writing while waiting for the real season to begin tonight with the Stanley Cup playoffs.

*Here’s a pretty sweet underground compilation of the top-10 hockey fights for the 2016-17 NHL regular season with Adam McQuaid playing a starring role in a couple of them.

*FOH (Friend of Haggs) Elliotte Friedman with his 30 thoughts for the week, including some back-story on the LA Kings massacre in their front office this week with both Dean Lombardi and Darryl Sutter getting the heave-ho.

*FOH (Friend of Haggs) and PHT writer Jason Brough has some bulletin board material about why each one of the 16 playoff teams won’t win the Cup. I guess that means they just hand the Cup to the eliminated Canucks if none of the 16 teams can win it, right Brough and Mike Halford?

*Hobey Baker winner Will Butcher said “thanks, but no thanks” to a contract offer from Colorado as the Avalanche just keep on losing even after the season had ended.

*Jumbo Joe Thornton has backtracked on his guarantee he would be able to play through a knee injury a the start of the playoffs for San Jose, and instead says that he’s “day-to-day.”

*Milan Lucic is older and wiser on the ice with the Oilers, but no less frightening to opponents than he was in his most intimidating days with the Bruins.

*For something completely different: Charlie Murphy gone too soon at 57 years old. I’ve never thought of Rick James the same since his bits on the Chappelle Show. What did the five fingers say to the face? Slap!
