DeBrusk “not feeling well,” out for Bruins this weekend

BRIGHTON, Mass – The Bruins are already starved for offense and now will have to make things work without their second-leading goal-scorer this weekend.

Second-year winger Jake DeBrusk will be out on Saturday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs and will miss the road game Sunday against the Ottawa Senators as well while “not feeling well.” DeBrusk said he physically didn’t feel good in the Thursday night game against the Tampa Bay Lightning and that remained the case on Friday, so he remained home rather than reporting to Warrior Ice Arena for the Saturday morning skate.

“He came in yesterday not feeling well and was not feeling great during the Tampa game and after, so he hasn’t come in today. Right now we can just speculate and I know he got hit in the back of the head in Toronto,” said Bruce Cassidy. “But he played. So right now we’re just waiting for him to come in so we know where he’s at. He’s definitely out [for Saturday] and he’s definitely out tomorrow, so hopefully, he feels better when we see him next.”

Cassidy alluded to the puck that DeBrusk took the back of his head a little less than two weeks ago in a loss to the same Maple Leafs, so it sounds like a possible post-concussion situation hasn’t been ruled out as of yet. DeBrusk was hit with a little friendly fire from Danton Heinen in the waning third period minutes of the loss in Toronto.

With DeBrusk out, the Bruins lose the only other player in double-digit goals behind David Pastrnak and one who had been playing very well until that game in Toronto. Since then he’d had zero points along with a minus-6 rating in four games, and didn’t seem to be playing with the same verve as he was previously.

With DeBrusk out, the Bruins will load up on their top line with Brad Marchand, David Krejci and Pastrnak and attempt to at least hold level with the firepower that Toronto is going to bring to the table, but it could be a real uphill against a Leafs team at full strength. The B’s are obviously far from that with DeBrusk now down and out as well.
