Chara (illness) out for Thursday night's game vs. Sharks

BOSTON – Zdeno Chara will once again be out for the Boston Bruins as the B’s captain has missed two practices since the firing of head coach Claude Julien, and will now be out for Thursday night’s game against the San Jose Sharks with an illness, according to the B’s.

“It’s a day-to-day thing so hopefully he’s ready to go for practice tomorrow and ready to play Saturday [against the Vancouver Canucks],” said Bruce Cassidy, who said that Chara was ill.

With the Bruins de facto No. 1 defenseman out of the lineup for Thursday night, Cassidy will go with Kevan Miller alongside 20-year-old rookie Brandon Carlo as their shutdown pair, and then piece together a bottom pairing of puck movers John-Michael Liles and Colin Miller. Cassidy has also shuffled the lines up front placing David Backes with Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand, and reuniting David Krejci with David Pastrnak.

Here are the projected line combos and D-pairings vs. the San Jose Sharks based on pregame warm-ups at TD Garden:
