The Boston Bruins announced Wednesday that goaltender Dan Vladar has been traded to the Calgary Flames for a third-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.

The 23-year-old Vladar posted a 2-2-1 record, a .886 save percentage and a 3.40 goals against average in five appearances for the Bruins during the 2020-21 regular season. He made his NHL debut in the second round of the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Vladar also was very good for the AHL's Providence Bruins over the last two years.

The Bruins signed former Buffalo Sabres goalie Linus Ullmark in free agency to a four-year contract worth $20 millionย on Wednesday. Vladar required waivers to be sent to Providence, whileย Jeremy Swayman does not. Therefore, it's not surprising that Vladar was the odd man out. The Bruins' tandem in net entering the 2021-22 season likely will be Ullmark and Swayman.

Bruins general manager Don Sweeney, speaking to reporters on a Zoom call Wednesday evening,ย also didn't rule out the possibility of veteran goalie and free agent Tuukka Rask returning at some point. Rask recently had surgery to repair a torn hip labrum, and his expected return date is sometime in January or February of 2022.
