Clearly the future is bright for the Bruins with four rookies in their opening night lineup, and both 20-year-old David Pastrnak and 19-year-old Brandon Carlo playing key roles in Boston’s 4-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Monday night.
But there’s plenty of dazzling talent throughout the Bruins system as evidenced by 2015 sixth round pick Cameron Hughes, who scored a show-stopping, through-the-legs goal for the University of Wisconsin against Boston College last weekend. Wisconsin eventually lost the game to the Eagles by an 8-5 score, but the 20-year-old Hughes has one amazing goal and four points in four games for the Badgers this season after registering just eight goals in his first two seasons for Wisconsin.
Hughes actually showed the standout speed, hands and skill during Bruins development camp back in July, and was one of the really noticeable players in the intra-squad scrimmage between the prospects on the final day of camp.
Fellow Bruins draft pick Trent Frederic also has two goals and six points for the Badgers in those same four NCAA games played thus far this season, but it might take him a while before he jumps over Hughes on the U of Wisconsin highlight reel.
