TORONTO – The Bruins can’t afford any more injuries, so they have to hope that Jake DeBrusk doesn’t join the last after taking a puck to the back of the head on Monday night.
In the third period DeBrusk was hauled down and absorbed a Danton Heinen blasted shot to the back of the head that ultimately pushed him out of the game. The 22-year-old winger was on the bench and returned to the ice after taking the puck to the head, but he eventually returned to the Bruins dressing room where he was checked out by doctors following the game.
DeBrusk was unavailable to comment to the media following Boston’s 4-2 loss to the Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena, and was traveling back to Boston with the team.
“Late he got hit with a Heinen shot. He tried to finish [the game] but he missed the last shift,” said Bruce Cassidy of DeBrusk, who finished with a team-high seven shots on net in 19:50 of ice time in the loss to the Leafs. “I don’t know anything other than that with him.”
The Bruins have to hope that DeBrusk is fine as he’s been red-hot offensively with seven goal during the month of November, and has been part of a resurgent second line along with Danton Heinen and David Krejci. The Bruins also can’t afford any more injuries with so many players already missing and defenseman Kevan Miller having been knocked out of Monday night’s game in the first period with a puck to the throat that forced him to stay in a Toronto hospital overnight.
