Bruins-Islanders Game 6 odds, betting preview

Well, here we are.

The Bruins are facing elimination in Game 6 tonight against the Islanders, yet are still favored despite whatever it is that's ailing Tuukka Rask. And even though Boston is expected to force a Game 7, they are no longer favored to win the series, according to our friends at PointsBet Sportsbook.

Bruins (-140) at Islanders (+120)

I'm a bit surprised that Boston is still getting so much love. They certainly looked like the better team earlier in the series, but they've struggled defensively and injuries (Brandon Carlo, Kevan Miller) haven't helped. There's also a feeling of uncertainty between the pipes.

Rask starts for Bruins, DeBrusk re-enters lineup for Game 6

I don't think many of us would have been that surprised if Jeremy Swayman got the start over Tuukka Rask considering that Tuukka has seemingly been battling an injury(s). So it's fair to think that Tuukka is playing at less than 100% and the Bruins don't have the advantage at goaltending that they possessed going into the series.

The other factor at play: the Islanders have been great in Uniondale. Yes, the Bruins picked up the win at the Coliseum in Game 3, but the Islanders were one of the best at home all season and are 3-2 at home in the postseason. New York was also in this position against the Penguins in the previous round, closing out Pittsburgh with a 5-3 win in Game 6.

But let's also put the "Bruins are favored" into context. This is as close to a pick'em that we've seen in this series. The Bruins have been favored in all six games:

Game 1 (-189)  - W

Game 2 (-200)  - L

Game 3 (-151)  - W

Game 4 (-145)  - L

Game 5 (-198)  - L

Game 6 (-140)

So that number is shrinking just a bit as confidence grows in the Islanders favor.

NYI (-200),  BOS (+175)

If you're going to bet on the Bruins tonight, it will cost $28 to win $20. And if you're the type of person that thinks the Bruins are going to win tonight, you're probably going to bet on the Bruins again in Game 7, at home, when they'll also be favored. In fact, you'll probably have to risk at least $30 to win $20 on a Bruins Game 7 win.

So if you have enough confidence to bet on the Bruins tonight, consider throwing that $20 on the Bruins to win the series at +175, which pays out $35. You'll feel better about it on Friday as long as the B's don't pull a repeat performance of what we saw in 2019 (let's not get into that).
