Brad Marchand, NHL's Third Star of the Month, nearing coincidental stat line

Brad Marchand isn't just the hottest player on the Boston Bruins. He's one of the hottest players in the entire league.

The NHL confirmed that Tuesday by naming the Bruins winger the NHL's Third Star of the Month, joining Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid and Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky.

How good was Marchand in March? The 30-year-old tallied at least one point in all but three games during the month of March.

Marchand recorded multiple points in eight of those 15 contests, putting him on the doorstep of 100 points -- 98 points on 35 goals and 63 assists -- with three games remaining in the Bruins' schedule.

In fact, if Marchand scores two more goals in those last three games, it will give him 100 points on 37 goals and 63 assists -- which happen to be the jersey numbers of fellow linemate Patrice Bergeron and himself.

That'd be a pretty awesome coincidence while putting Marchand in elite company, but the 10-year-veteran insisted he's not chasing numbers as the B's jockey for playoff position.

"Anything works," Marchand said Tuesday ahead of Boston's game in Columbus against the Blue Jackets, via the Bruins. "At the end of the day, whether you have 100 points or 99 or 98 it really doesn’t change anything. We’re still a playoff team and fighting for the Cup."
