Super Bowl 55 live blog: Tom Brady wins seventh title as Bucs beat Chiefs

It's finally here -- Super Bowl LV featuring the AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs and NFC champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers has begun.

This year's matchup is a historical one.

The Buccaneers are in their second Super Bowl in team history. Their quarterback, Tom Brady, is making his 10th appearance on the NFL's grandest stage. He's won a record six Super Bowl titles and four Super Bowl MVPs. Brady is aiming to become the first quarterback in league history to start and win a Super Bowl with teams from different conferences.

Standing in Brady's way of another championship is Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. He's trying to lead the Chiefs to back-to-back titles. The last team to win consecutive Super Bowls was Brady's New England Patriots in 2003 and 2004.

The Chiefs are the betting favorites despite playing in the Buccaneers' home venue of Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay.

FINAL, 31-9 Buccaneers

Tom Brady has led the Bucs to their second Super Bowl win in franchise history. He now has seven Super Bowl titles, more than any player or team in NFL history. The Chiefs' loss preserves the Patriots' status as the most recent back-to-back champions (2003 and 2004).

Fourth quarter, 1:58, 31-9 Buccaneers: Another interception for the Bucs defense.

Fourth quarter, 3:58, 31-9 Buccaneers: Tampa Bay's dominant defensive performance has not stopped. KC just turned the ball over on downs, again.

Fourth quarter, 8:12, 31-9 Buccaneers: The Bucs just punted for the first time since the first quarter. The Chiefs will take over at their own 7-yard line.

Fourth quarter, 8:55, 31-9 Buccaneers: Tampa Bay has the ball at the Chiefs 46-yard line. A score on this drive would essentially seal the victory -- if it hasn't already been secured.

Third quarter, 2:50, 31-9 Buccaneers: Bucs kicker Ryan Succop nails a 52-yard field goal to increase his team's lead.

Third quarter, 6:30, 28-9 Buccaneers: The first turnover of the game is a Patrick Mahomes interception.

Third quarter, 7:51, 28-9 Buccaneers: Leonard Fournette widened the Bucs' lead with a 27-yard touchdown run.

Third quarter, 11:29, 21-9 Buccaneers: Another promising Chiefs drive ends in a field goal.

Third quarter, 15:00, 21-6 Buccaneers: The Chiefs open the first half with the ball.

Halftime, 21-6 Buccaneers: Tom Brady found the end zone again with a touchdown pass to wide receiver Antonio Brown. Two costly pass interference penalties helped the Bucs travel nearly 71 yards in 55 seconds of game action.

Second quarter, 1:01, 14-6 Buccaneers: The Chiefs offense quickly moved into the red zone but the drive was halted by another strong Bucs pass rush on a third down.

KC settled for a field goal.

Second quarter, 6:05, 14-3 Buccaneers: Tampa Bay was about to kick a field goal when Kansas City jumped offsides, and the yardage gave the Bucs a first down. A few plays later, Tom Brady found Rob Gronkowski for another touchdown.

Second quarter, 9:03, 7-3 Buccaneers: The Bucs are about to get the ball back in Chiefs territory following a horrible punt by Tommy Townsend.

KC's offense is struggling.

Second quarter, 11:42, 7-3 Buccaneers: The Chiefs defense holds with a much-needed goal line stand to prevent Tampa Bay from going up double digits.

Second quarter, 12:32, 7-3 Buccaneers: Tom Brady connects with Mike Evans for 31 yards on play action and the Bucs are rolling deep into Chiefs territory.

First quarter, 0:37, 7-3 Buccaneers: How fitting is it that Rob Gronkowski was on the receiving end of Tom Brady's first ever first quarter Super Bowl touchdown?

Very fitting.

First quarter, 5:10, 3-0 Chiefs: The Chiefs scored the first points of the game on a 49-yard field goal by Harrison Butker.

First quarter, 8:29, 0-0: A Tampa Bay drive ends as Frank Clark sacks Tom Brady.

First quarter, 11:29, 0-0: The Chiefs picked up a first down, but the Bucs defense forced a punt.

First quarter, 13:33, 0-0: The Chiefs defense forced a 3-and-out on its first possession.

First quarter, 14:56, 0-0: The Chiefs won the toss and deferred to the second half. Tom Brady and the Bucs will get the ball first.
