The New England Patriots lost Super Bowl LII for several reasons, and the touchdown the Philadelphia Eagles scored right before halftime was a turning point in their eventual 41-33 victory.
The play was called the "Philly Special", and it has become part of Eagles lore. There's even a statue outside Lincoln Financial Field celebrating the play.
The Super Bowl is a place to empty your bag of tricks in an attempt to catch the opponent off guard. The Eagles certainly caught the Patriots by surprise when this famous play featuring Eagles quarterback Nick Foles catching a touchdown instead of throwing one.
Would the Los Angeles Rams run a similar play Sunday against the Patriots in Super Bowl LIII? Rams running back Todd Gurley was asked about it this week.
Maybe Gurley is just trying to downplay the possibility of L.A. bringing back this play.
Rams quarterback Jared Goff does not have a reception in his three seasons in the NFL. If someone on the Rams besides Goff was going to throw the ball, it probably would be punter Johnny Hekker, and if he's on the field, Goff probably is on the sideline.
