Watch Yankees' Mike Tauchman pick off ex-Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo in high school

Former Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo never threw a regular-season interception during his time in New England, but he has been picked off before by a Boston rival.

Garoppolo, now the San Francisco 49ers signal-caller, once had a pass intercepted by current New York Yankees slugger Mike Tauchman in high school. Watch the clip here, courtesy of YES Network. Tauchman picks off Garoppolo at the 1:47 mark.

This is just the latest display of stellar defense from the Yankees' breakout star. Tauchman made a grab just last week vs. the Orioles that appeared on every "Top 10 Highlights" show out there. He's been a godsend for the injury-plagued Bronx Bombers all season long.

Despite having bragging rights for picking off Garoppolo, Tauchman doesn't like to bring it up.

"Tauchman does not really gloat about that, he's kind of sheepish," said Jack Curry of YES Network. "He told the Daily Herald in Illinois, 'It's a cool story but it's kind of weird to talk about. I don't want to sound like the guy in the bar when he was nine years old he struck out Bryce Harper and he's boasting about it.'"

Credit to Tauchman for not relishing in his high school years, but picking off an NFL quarterback is a story he might want to tell more often.

Along with getting the job done defensively -- both in baseball and football -- Tauchman has turned heads at the plate this season. The 28-year-old has a slash line of .295/.379/.565 with 12 homers and 42 RBI.
