Tom Brady praises Patriots fans for ‘ridiculous' support at FedEx field

The New England Patriots were on the road Sunday for their Week 5 matchup against the Washington Redskins, even if it didn't sound or look like an away atmosphere for the defending Super Bowl champs at FedEx Field.

Patriots fans took over the stadium, giving their teams massive cheers after every score and even starting a "Brady! Brady! Brady!" chant late in the fourth quarter as New England closed out a 33-7 win.

The surprisingly strong support on the road drew plenty of praise from Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

"That was ridiculous," Brady told reporters. "That was amazing. It felt like a home game. Right from the time that we got to the hotel yesterday afternoon, to when we ran in after the game, that was pretty sweet. We appreciate all the support. It was good to come down here and get a win in front of them."

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was similarly impressed with the team's fans coming to FedEx Field in massive numbers.

“It was amazing," Belichick told reporters. "Oh my God. There were so many Patriots fans here. Surprising and overwhelming. It was great seeing that. We appreciate the support from all of our traveling Patriots fans. Or maybe they’re from here. I don’t know. It was great to see them. That was awesome.”

The Patriots didn't give their fans much to cheer about in the first half. They held a slim 12-7 lead at halftime, and the offense (and the run game, in particular) was still struggling to find the end zone. The second half was a far different story as Belichick and his coaching staff made the right adjustments to break the game open.

New England outscored Washington 21-0 in the second half, and the run game nearly tripled its yards per carry compared to the first half. The Patriots finished with 442 total yards of offense and Brady tallied his third 300-yard game of the season.

Next up for the Patriots is a rare visit to Gillette Stadium from the rival New York Giants on Thursday night. The atmosphere in Foxboro should be electric for the Pats' second night game of the season, especially if Giants running back Saquon Barkley makes an early return from his ankle injury.
