These crazy stats should give Patriots fans confidence about Week 17 matchup

The New England Patriots' mission in Week 17 is simple: win and they are assured of at least the No. 2 seed in the AFC playoffs.

Standing in Tom Brady and Co.'s way of a first-round playoff bye is the rival New York Jets, who are at Gillette Stadium to end another abysmal campaign.

Here are some stats and trends that should make Patriots fans feel good about their team's chances of beating the Jets and earning, at worst, the No. 2 seed in next month's playoffs.

The Edelman and Brady connection found its groove again last week when the Patriots wrapped up the AFC East title with a win over the Buffalo Bills. Edelman caught six passes for 70 yards, including a crazy 32-yard touchdown

The Patriots have not lost to the Jets at home since 2006, and they haven't lost to the Jets in any home setting since the 2010 playoffs. New York enters Week 17 in last place in the AFC East with a 4-11 record.
